In wenigen OECD-Ländern hat das Berufsbildungssystem einen so hohen Stellenwert wie in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz. Nicht zuletzt dank der vielgestaltigen Möglichkeiten in der Berufsaus- und Weiterbildung verläuft der Übergang von der Schule ins Arbeitsleben in allen drei Ländern vergleichsweise reibungslos. Die berufliche Bildung des sogenannten Sekundarbereichs II (duales System) schafft ein solides Fundament für spätere Weiterqualifizierung, insbesondere durch die postsekundäre berufliche Bildung.
Der jüngste OECD-Bildungsbericht „Skills Beyond School“ beschäftigt sich mit dieser fortgeschrittenen beruflichen Ausbildung, die über mindestens sechs Monate Vollzeit erfolgt und sowohl am Anfang einer Berufslaufbahn stehen als auch eine Zusatzqualifikation für bereits erfahrene Arbeitskräfte bieten kann. Der Bericht baut auf zwanzig Länder-Analysen zum Thema auf, die die OECD jüngst erstellt hat. (
